Price just lowered to $249,990...I think this is a steal for this quality of a car. It might be going to auction (hope it doesn't).

Auction Description:
*Desirable, early matching-numbers 911
*Beautifully presented and highly original
*Offered with COA, Cardex and restoration photos
*Great car for rallies such as the Copperstate 1000
This early 302 Series 911 was produced on July 22, 1965. It was sold new by the renowned Jacksonville, Florida based Brumo's Porsche to a Mr. W.A. Stockton of West Palm Beach two months later, on September 22, 1965. This car's Certificate of Authenticity states that it was originally finished in 6402 Ruby Red over a black leatherette interior. It was supplied with tinted glass all the way around, wheel caps with the Porsche crest, and a left-hand side mounted exterior mirror. Also noted on the COA was a Webasto gas-fired heater and a set of Phoenix 165/15 tires.
After Mr. Stockton's ownership, the car's history remains unknown until it was discovered by its present owner in the beginning of the the new millennium. Having been acquired as a preserved example in highly original condition after long term storage, this 911 was a great candidate for a comprehensive refurbishment. A three-year process of stripping the car down to bare metal and taking the Porsche back to its previous glory started; a refurbishment of the matching numbers engine and the Solex carburetors began. The interior was reupholstered to a very high standard with a great eye for the details, while keeping the car as original as possible. All the original parts that could be used were carefully restored and put back into the car, and the result is an interior that presents as very appropriate and period correct.
The body shell was refinished in a beautiful red livery, and the car was fitted with its 07/65 date stamped wheels, making this early 911 look just right. The Wabasto heater was not installed in the car during the restoration but it will accompany the car, as will the freshly restored tools and jack. With the car also comes the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Kardex, a copy of the model designation letter, and plenty of photos from the extensive restoration of this great 911.
The early 911 is considered by many enthusiasts as the purest of the company's air-cooled sports cars. With such an extensive, expertly conducted restoration this Porsche is perfectly suited for tours and Concours; however, with as much attention paid to mechanics as aesthetics this car could easily be an enthusiast's gorgeous driver. The opportunity to find such a great 911 – with its matching numbers engine and wonderful restoration – does not come along often. This one, therefore, should be seriously considered by all 911 fans.
FOOTNOTES: Please note this car is titled 1966.

What is a "302 Series"? I've never heard that term.
It's definitely a nice car, fortunately the quality of the car exceeds the quality of the "freshly restored tools and jack"
You'd think they would have sprung for the $59.35 battery cover.
There's one really odd thing about this car: it has "6 fold seats" a feature that seems to have been discontinued before chassis # 301318.
It's hard to tell, but it looks like the vinyl on the seat back may be perforated (which is correct for the very early 911s and 356Cs with perforated vinyl inserts).

Gooding's general words on the Porsche 911 include:
A modern classic if ever there was one, Porsche's long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356. The latter's rear-engined layout was retained, but the 911 switched to unitary construction for the body shell and dropped the 356's VW-based suspension in favor of a more modern McPherson strut and trailing arm arrangement.
You'd think Gooding would know that a 356 does not use the VW's body-on-pan structure.

It's a valid way to parse the field.
BTW, the battery cover was in the car when the Bonhams guy came to photograph it...not sure why he didn't put it on...we had it off so we could hook it up to a battery tender.

Seat backs appear to be made of perforated material, is that original? I have never seen that before but doesnt mean it's not correct.
It is and it isn't correct. Very early 911s--up through 300984, maybe later--had seats with 6 folds in the center insert.
Here's the table from Special early 1964 features on 1965 cars
Also, 356Cs and Early 911s which had leatherette seat inserts had perforated leatherette inserts and seat backs. I have two pictures from an early 1965 Porsche of America brochure which kinda, sorta show that perforated material:
So, those look like correct early 1965 Porsche seats. But, chassis number 302003 is a very late model year 1965 Porsche 911 so I'm not so confident those are the correct seats for it.
