Thread: Hand Throttle

  1. #1

    Hand Throttle/Cold Start CIS

Replaced the actuator for the hand throttle yesterday. The old one had given all it had to give. Adjusted the barrel on the cable throttle stop and it's good to go again.

Part #19 in the diagram. Barrel with set screw is on the cable.

I bet the bushings for the accelerator rod are crumbs also . Did you replace those ? The hand throttle is more precise with bushings for the rod .

Gee, thanks for reminding me - #11 in the picture (901.423.227.00)
    One pita at a time.

Will get those when some additional "tunneling" is done.

These were the brittle remains that lay below the cable in the final resting place.
The nozzle and the spinning effect inside the car vacuum reduced the "larger pieces" to pulp.

I bet many owners would be surprised to find that the originals were flexible, not hard as a rock - same with the ends on the turn signal & flash stalks.

It surely does but isn't entirely necessary if you don't mind laying down on the seat and working in the dark. Get a good light! Undo the 3 main bolts and the 2 that hold the shift rod bushing. Pull the handbrake up (don't engage the e-brake) and cock it to get to #21. Remove it and #20 without sending #21 into orbit or the "black hole". Put the new one on, install #20 and #21 and rotate it into position. IF the bushes are loose/gone/rurnt (you understand "Suthen" for ruined) You may need to adjust the stop #24 as the hand throttle will deflect the cable a bit which will decrease it's effect. One day when you are completely bored to tears go back and replace the bushings. I've never done any in 35+ years and I'm not likely to start tomorrow.
If and when I drop my engine for other stuff maybe I'll do those and other things that have never given me any trouble.

Here is a kick-butt compact 250 Lumen light that will blind you. 2 position with a very strong magnet. (ECFHKY part number)
