Thread: Oil pump

    Oil pump

I'm having my engine rebuilt--upgrading from a stock '71 911T to a 2.4 liter near-S. I don't plan to have the car on the track much if ever. The machine shop hogged out the block to accept a larger (later) oil pump, saying a hopped up engine might need a larger pump. It seems the major change in oil pumps came in '89, by which time the engines were significantly larger and more powerful. So I'm inclined to keep my old pump. Any thoughts?

If you didn't have the oil by-pass mod done, then you can keep the original size pump. That pump has only worked well for the past 45 years or so !

The pump is just the pump, doesn't come with pistons or springs. You will need to get the proper pistons, but I use the old springs, you get higher oil pressure. The SC springs reduce the oil pressure, not needed with lower revving engine and mild cam lobes. DO NOT use the restrictors, the engine they were used for is a totally different animal.

    Ed,
I've always wondered about the cam restrictors, yes they increase pressure, but can't they damage our cams, which require more oil flow?
