Power to fuse #8? Brake lights?

The brake lights on my '72 911 are not working and I've traced most everything down. In short I've found that if I jump the switch at the brake pedal and connect power directly from the battery to the brake light lead from the fuse box (from fuse #8) the brake lights work beautifully. I've also tested the switch and it's fine. So everything from the fuse back is good.

BUT...shouldn't there always be power to the hot (red wire) side of fuse #8? I've found that there is no power even with the key in the "on" position (which I don't think is required). The really confusing thing is that the turn signals, which come off of the same fuse (right?) work fine. ??? How is this ???

I've looked at the wiring diagram and it looks like the Hot wire to the fuse comes from the CDI (???). Is that correct? Something wrong with the CDI? The engine runs fine and has forever. ???

    Any clues here???

Just FYI for anyone watching this thread. I posted the same thread over on Pelican on got the reply below. Good information!

"Switched power comes in on the Red/Black wire to fuse 7 from the ignition switch, there is a built in jumper on the back of the fuse panel going to position 8."

I did get your reply Ed. I now think that it is actually a faulty switch and have ordered a new one. I was waiting to get the new part, install and test it before I got back to you with updated info and/or questions. The way I see it you can have too much information so I also posted here and on Pelican.

For anyone following this thread Ed's reply to my private email is below:

"When the ignition is turned on power is directed from the ignition switch to fuse number 7 via a red/black wire. Fuse 7 is connected to fuse 8 via buss bar on the back side of the fuse block. Power goes from the input side of fuse 8 directly to the CD ignition, it is NOT fused. The out put side of fuse 8 has the three leads, brake , blinker , and reverse lights. The brake lights only work with ignition on. go to brake light switch, remove switch from pedal assembly, remove wire from switch that goes to brake lights. (black/yellow) connect voltmeter or test light to that terminal. Turn on ignition, operate the switch lever manually, You should see indication that power is going through the switch. If so then it is a matter of adjusting switch to operate with brake pedal movement, if not switch must be faulty, (very unusual)"

    Great information! Thanks much Ed.
