The Ford Mustang is currently the best-selling sports car in Germany

I think this speaks volumes about the car and inherent value.

Discussions on Rennlist regarding the "Flat Plane" GT350 are interesting with Porsche owners stepping up to buy these. If you've never heard one it's the best sounding car out here short of a 12 cylinder Ferrari. I'd own one in a minute. Porsche is downsizing and (dual) turbo charging engines "just to keep up" and push up CAFE numbers.
I'm not dropping any money on a 4 cylinder Boxer or variant thereof. Making things more complicated doesn't make them more reliable.

People Assume that everyone in Germany has a Porsche or a Mercedes. This is entirely untrue. Owning a luxury car in Germany is considered pretentious Many Germans that own luxury cars hide them and only drive them on special occasions. A Ford would not be considered pretentious and would be driven daily therefore the higher sales over prestigious brands in Germany. IMO
