CRAYFORD of Westerham UK RHD conversion

    Hi All

Im tracking history on my 65.

My early 65 LHD 911 was delivered into Germany and then sent straight to AFN in England the following month. It was then converted to RHD within weeks of arriving in the UK. ( strange because you could order RHD at that time) then sent to Australia some months later.

The conversion was done perfectly with the first Australian owner advising me that they believe the conversion was done by Crayford in Westerham UK.

Would anyone know of the company established in 1962 and know how i could access any info on my cars conversion ( past employee etc )

It has been said that it may very well have been the first conversion from LHD to RHD in the world.

Much appreciate your assistance once again

    regards

    Xen

I think the past owner was getting confused. Crayford carried out a number of RHD conversions on 914s, but never did a 911. Their bread and butter, so to speak, was doing soft-top conversions on Ford sedans, and the like, NOT right- to left-hand drive conversions. They did some convert some US-built AMC products for use by US embassies, but that's all.

Xen, I posted this over in www.Typ901.org

This is from Stew Kay (owner of the first RHD in OZ)

Sounds like VIN 3008XX (I nixed the last VIN digits - but feel free to undo if you like)

    LHD converted Signal Red/Black
Fulda Germany 'handler' - delivered, a 4.65 build

I also stand to be corrected, but when you ordered a RHD 901 from factory back in 64, you got a LHD converted to order by the factory...
