    Lakewell Dash install tips?

I am about to install a new RHD lakewell dash in a 1969 911

It seems straight forward enough, but does anyone have any tips or things to watch out for?

The windscreen is out and the plastic cups for the dash clips have been replaced.

The four bolts securing the speaker grill are down flush to the nylock nuts,

Will this provide enough clearance? or should they be removed entirely, and replaced with something else?

I really don't want to screw up the dash by installing it incorrectly...

    thanks in advance

I used a new Lakewell on my 73 and the car was similarly disassembled. Assuming the same arrangement as my 73 dash, the clips and cups are straightforward, but you need to ensure that the studs on the dash pad need to find their respective holes in the dash/cowl sheet metal which can be a challenge depending on how far things have been removed from the cowl, i.e. blower assembly, blower air valves, hoses, etc. Otherwise expect nothing unusual.

We've installed several of these and on each we've had to remove the bolts securing the speaker grill to get them to fit flush. The grill seems to stay in place fine without them once removed.

I make sure all the bolts are lined up, and gradually work them into all the holes. Then I loosely attach all the nuts and washers on the back side, and then tighten them all a little at a time to pull the dash down evenly. I also push the front of the dash as I am tightening the nuts to make sure the dash is pushed against the metal of the car, and you are not just pulling the attachment bolts out of the dash. So slow, and make sure the dash is seated properly.

Is it possible to post a few pics of the lakewell dash? Studs and clips. just installed one that I purchased from Stoddards. Looks good, but has a few issues, one is that the Stoddard dash top has studs on the forward part close to the windshield. The friction of the locknuts overpowered the thread lock on the studs and one stud left an imprint in the top. Removed all the studs, cleaned and used thread lock, got rid of the self locking nuts in favor of std nuts and wave washers.

Left the nuts off the speaker grille

    Here is a quick pic,

I have put in the three bolts to show the locations, the four studs along the front edge are moulded in.

The white clips go into the moulded holes with a half turn/twist. I think they are the are the same as door card clips?

let me know if you want a close up of anything else.

    thanks everyone for the help.

    cheers

Thanks, looks much more like the original. The one I installed last week had studs where the white clips are on the Lakewell top. Looks very nice.
