    putting a 73 911 on a two post lift

    Guys,

In order to obtain the best balance, where should the vertical post of 2 post lift be.... at the door handle?, behind the door handle, in front of the handle?; how many inches?

I am trying to figure out where to place the lift, when I install it in my garage. In order to get maximum use of the space, I want to back the car in so that the car nose is 10 inches from the closed garage door.

PS. I have already raised the garage door rails to get sufficient clearance.

    Thanks

    John

One would think that the jack point was placed at about the balance point of the car.

    David,

That's what I considered. But then I found some old corner weight data and from that data calculated/estimated that the cg is approximately 38 inches in front of the rear wheel center cap. The jack point is approx. 32 inches in front of the rear wheel center cap.

And of course, I also need to consider placement of the lifting arms. My ultimate goal is neutral balance when it is up in the air.

If you are close to the CG point it shouldn't matter much. As far as where to place pads, at the torsion bar, rear of the front.

I move the car as far forward as I can, placing the rear lift pads just ahead of the rear sway bar consoles. The fronts where it is convenient. G. Led

If you have an overhead door, check the clearance with the car that close. A roll up or swing garage door no sweat. I you are backing the car into the garage you may want to consider a reversible for the arms. I like the shorter arms on the heavy end of the car. Good luck,

For those of you using a lift, would you be so kind and please take some pics of where you place the lifting pads? Think I have a pretty good idea but want to be sure since I just had the floor straightened and don’t want to mess that up the first thing I do
