    67S fuel tank

The exterior of my tank is in great shape. Issue with clogged idle jets has had me wondering about the condition of the inside. I used a scope today to take a look at the inside of the tank through the fuel filler. The tank has the measles. I am currently weighting my options on trying to restore the tank or replacing it. The Dansk repacement tanks for 65-73 can be had for as little as $300. so cost is not really an issue.

Are there any physical difference between my original 67' tank and the Dansk replacement that covers 8 model years? Has anyone handled one of these reproductions lately to comment on how faithful they are to the original.

Some people- a couple of years back - had fitment issues with the Dansk tanks (at least on LWB cars). I have no idea if this was a one-off issue with a specific batch of tanks or if the tanks are still manufactured like this.

the dansk tank is the later style 68 version with the flat area at the spare wheel bowl
the breather tube diameter is bigger than on the originalos
also the breather area is different to the porsche part.
had some problems with fitting the strainers/filter it was touching the auxillary support(70E) cause the thread was to long.
had to shorten the thread + alternative fuel line routing.

    for the geeks
the spare wheel area is a separate welded on part.
    dansk is one pice

I went through this about a year ago on my 69 912. I would do some more research on available tanks, as repairing original is a lot of work and will cost as much or more as a new one. I think Restoration Design makes one. Here is my story:

Look up local fuel tank rework shops. I had mine cleaned and recoated on the inside -- worked out very well.

The Restoration Design tank is listed for model years 69-73. The Dansk tank is marketed as a 65-73. Moito stated the Dansk is basically a 68 tank. No wonder there may be fitment issues. I seems there may not be an accurate 67 replacement tank being made.

I am just in the process of attempting to fit a dansk tank whilst my shell is progressing, let's just say it is needing a lot of felting to get it to fit.

In terms of the flat area on the bowl of the dansk tank, how have people modified the dansk tank so that it looks fully rounded as per an original early 67 tank.

    Thanks
    Mark
