    Alternative air filter options

What is the best air filter alternative to the
factory setup for 1970 911T? The factory setup is hard to
remove and install and is probably robbing
    some hp.

Stick with the factory filter, it robs no horsepower.

+1. I reverted to the original air box set up on my T from the rain hat K&N's and it runs much better - fixing a lean acceleration pop that annoyed me.

Here's some information on air filters.

There are really 3 things you want an air filter to do.

    • Provide maximum airflow.
    • Protect against airborne dust particles.
    • Perform efficiently when dirty.

You want something that can trap 10 micron particles. btw - The air filters the F1 folks use trap 7 microns and still flow efficiently; i.e. No power loss.

Some possibly conflicting info here? One post says it robs no horsepower (my guess this is true up to a certain flow/horsepower level, and then it starts to). While another post says rain hats caused a lean/popping condition. Which by definition would mean that the rain hats were flowing more than the stock setup (which cured it by flowing less and making the mixture more rich). Maybe a better cure in this instance would have been to richen the mixture and make more horsepower?

    Hmmm.

So your saying that a non-stock system using rain hats
    is better?

My theory is that it is not only the quantity of flow, but also its quality. I believe the factory air box flows air better... Maybe that means with less turbulence but not sure.

I would recommend removing the snorkel thing and replacing it with an 3.0 RSR style one. In my opinion it looks much better than the 3rd party replacements.
