    FS: 1970 911E Chartreuse Green

    Sold....

Exterior: Painted Chartreuse Green this is a period correct special order color from Porsche. While not the original color to this car it is unbelievably appealing and allows the car to grab attention and compliments anywhere it goes. The paint was done to a high standard and remains in excellent shape all around with the only small flaws being a few stone chips on the original steel “S” air dam. The wheels are 15” deep 6 Fuchs all of which have been restored and are in perfect condition, including the spare. The rear wheels are 7R weld ups done by Al Reed in California – nice touch that gives the car a slightly more aggressive and muscular stance.

Brightwork: The exterior chrome is all in original condition providing a bit of patina and keeping the car from looking over restored. It is all in excellent condition but does show some areas of slight pitting and light scratches.

Mechanicals: This car sports its original numbers matching motor. The motor was rebuild to “S” specs with Solex cams. This is a popular combination as it provides higher horse power than the original E configuration but allows the power to come on earlier in the RPM band than the “S”. Leak down and compression tests have been performed recently and the motor is solid and performs beautifully. Like many cars from this era the tempermental mechanical fuel injection was replaced back in the day with Webers. The Webers are in good tune with nice tight throttle shafts. A front fender Carrera oil cooler was added along with original hard oil lines. These additions were done to a high standard and allow the motor to stay cool in all conditions. The 901 gear box performs as it should without fault or issue. The front alloy “S” calipers have been rebuilt along and a new master cylinder makes the entire braking system fresh and in excellent operating condition.

Interior: The interior of the car also shows beautifully and was largely restored. The overall strategy on this car was to create an outstanding looking and driving automobile without getting caught in the trap of a concourse restoration. The result is a car that is not over restored and that an owner can enjoy driving without fear. That being said the interior was redone using Autobahn interior carpet, headliner and vinyl. The interior also has original double locker sports seats and a new German dash. The steering wheel is an “RS/914” wheel with an original hockey puck horn pad. It has a perfectly matching spacer to ensure enough knuckle room between the wheel and dash. Everything works in the interior including the clock, rear window defrost and the original Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio (with new German sourced dash speaker).

Underside: The mechanical aspects of this car’s underside are all excellent. The suspension and bushings have all been gone through and the car was aligned and corner balanced. New Boge dampeners were installed all around two years ago. The cosmetics of the underside are unrestored and nothing has been hidden. These is no rot and the car is dry and quite clean. The underside could be nicely improved through cleaning/degreasing followed by some masking and fresh paint/undercoat. If examined closely signs of body repairs can be seen in rockers and front fenders. All rust was removed and panels replaced or repaired.

Summary: This is a really nicely done driver’s restoration. It shows phenomenally well, the color is outstanding and the car has been completely reliable. Any work that has been needed has been done and never shortcut. There are quite a few expensive little touches on the car from the wheels to the seats to the “S” air dam, to the steering wheel, to the “S” brake calipers, to the “S” oil cooling system, to the motor build. It’s just a really great all around car and has been done in a way that should communicate both its esthetic beauty and that it is a driver’s car not just a garage show piece.
