FS: 901 Bakelite OE 5 Speed Shift Knob As New - $150

This is a real deal OE Bakelite 901 knobs, not the current Dansk plastic reproduction. I have 4 of these.

To be clear, this is a re-manufactured OE knob. I had a few OE Bakelite shift knobs that had crazed buttons but otherwise in perfect condition. . I purchased a current Dansk black plastic knob solely for the button, and precisely machined out the pattern button. Then I re-machined the OE Bakelight knob to remove the crazed button and replaced it with the Dansk button. . The button is identical in size to the OE button, the one visual difference is the vertical like on the "5" digit.. The OE version was perfectly vertical, the Dansk button '5' has a slight incline as pictured.

The finished Bakelite knob, with it's distinctive brownish patterns, was then carefully polished. This comes with the internal crimp ring installed. . $150 + $15 shipping with tracking USPS Priority Mail.

Send me an EMAIL please, not a PM, as I don't always see the PM's.

Hmmm! So when you were trying to sell all 7 of these knobs to me a couple weeks ago on 914world you never mentioned that the shift pattern and clear top were switched out from the repro Dansk knob, I was told that they were original and perfect shape. Here is your PM that you sent me over on 914world .

"Mike. . I'm on the S Registry site also, and know what they 'could' sell for. .
I'm going thru a lifetime of Porsche stuff cleaning out the stash before my
kids just throw things away some day. . I therefore offered these to the 914 Group
at a reasonable price first, hoping a few guys who needed nice ones for nice cars would benefit. No one has spoken up so far. . Their loss. . .
That being said, I have a total of 5 perfect ones plus the 2 that have the chrome outer trim ring not as perfect as I pictured.
You can have all 7 for $750, That is shipped and fully insured with tracking.
    Dave"

Must have had a complaint from the buyers of the 3 you sold since you only have 4 left?

Second PM sent by you on 914world, which scared me off, requesting payment be sent as "Gift".

    "Mike. .
Does that mean you want them ? If so Paypal to
    toolguy@pacbell.net
Please mark payment as 'gift to friend' so there is no commission fee deducted. . Send me your address and I can get these out this afternoon after Paypal confirms
    transaction. Dave

Nope, no complaints sold a couple and used the same pictures as shown here, all above board, But let's not spread deciet
My ad {May 30th} on 914world clearly had the following note.

Note: I had a question from a member who thought these were the current repops which are black plastic or nylon and generally sell for 30 -80 bucks. . Let me clarify the knobs are Old Stock Bakelite ones which had cracked / crazed buttons. I was able to get some new button inserts from Dansk. I machined the old Bakelite knobs to remove the old bad buttons and replaced with new Buttons. They were also polished to remove all scratches from the Bakelite. The optical difference is the number 5 has a slightly slanted vertical line while the original 1970's '5' is a straight vertical.

. . but again, note the pictures there are the same as here and no effort was made to hide the shift pattern button. All out in the open . You however, were apparently trying to be greedy and snap them all up cheap as you had just sold one on this site for full freight. . Wonder what you would have done with the ones from me.??? . Gouge you friends?? I spent considerable time making fixtures, purchasing the components and machining these.plus the 2 I screwed up getting fixtures accurate. . It all started with one for myself and couple of extras to cover my machinist time and material cost. That's all. . How about giving this a break. you made your statement, let the public decide. .

Using the Paypal Gift option is a common occurrence over on 914World in my experience. . you were the guy trying to get the cheap price. . if you wanted to pay for the Paypal transaction that could have been your option. .

and to be clear, since you left off, it was your request to buy all of the ones I offered, here is the full email and your reply. .

Dave no problem, that is a good price as is, they would be snatched up right away over on the earlyS. 914 guys are a little different just need to find the right guy that knows what these are.

Dave this is a hobby for me I have nothing but very satisfied customers I am a very honest seller.

"Gouge your friends"? Some of the people I have sold items to I would consider friends but most of my buyers are just the general public on here, PP and 914world. The market dictates the price, if the price is too high it won't sell "pretty simple concept".
I have paid through friends and family also but only people I have done business with in the past, first time transaction with a seller and they ask for F&F payment to me is a red flag and leaves you with no recourse if you are not happy with the item because it was misrepresented!

In above ad: "To be clear, this is a re-manufactured OE knob" Should have been included in your original ad on 914world, instead your ad title was: "Original NLA 901 Bakelite shift knobs, perfect original condition".

Once again, not the entire facts. . I've bought from you before and you sent me emails about the S motor i had for same. . emails going back over the past 8 months. . . As documented below, I even paid you more than your requested in the following transaction. . Also note you bumped the price at bit when specifying payment using Paypal. .
And the lens you set were indeed exactly as you said and it was a good experience. . we communicated more about the correct 914-6 hold down bolt. . Jog your memory a bit/ so I wasn't a new guy on the site, or a first time communicator deserving of mistrust.

I'll ask once again, How about dropping this rant. .
