    Wiper Motor Woes -- 71e

Hey everyone. I have been trouble shooting my wiper motor. It is no longer parking. I looked at all the wiring diagrams out there, and confirmed I have the the intermittent relay set-up and I have 5 wires at the motor end. I have the bundle of ground wires hooked to the spade at the bottom of the motor. I have a 4 post terminal on my motor. 3:00 is the brown and Grey, 6:00 is the Blk/Lav, 9:00 is the Red from Condenser, 12:00 is the Blk/Yel Every thing is great except, I get nothing on the brown/Gray wire. this is the wire that goes bak to the Relay. So I am betting my Relay is bad.

Is there a way to by-Pass this set up .... I also see that my Blue wire form the switch to the Relay is going through the relay. Are there replacements for the Relays. I see they are NLA, and they seem pretty rare. I opened them up, and they seem pretty simple.

Again, I would love to be able to Bypass these relays. I think I will be able to just make a jumper from the Blue wire from the relay to the motor. that seems to match some wiring diagram.

    thanks -- rr

Well I thought I was going to get smart. i jumped the Brn/Gray wire with the Blue wire. the idea was to get the blue wire to the motor. Worked for a bit, then popped a fuse. Rut Ro. Anyhow, I took the motor back out. I tested it, and all is fine, but when I put things back together, it look like I have a short. I replaced the motor with a spare, and still nada. So I think the motor is fine. Now I am trouble shooting the wiring. This circuit is on the X bus. I pour it up, and all the other xBus circuits are working great, but my power probe is showing a ground on the fuse (#6). Pull the fuse, and I get power at the fuse terminal ground at the circuit side. I pull the connector for the multi-switch under the dash, and I get power on both ends of the fuse. I pull all the wires to the motor and relays, and hook the switch, I still have power on both ends of the fuse. I hook the Blk/Yellow wire to the motor, I go back to Grnd at the fuse. I do have power on the Blk/Lav when I turn on the switch. If I hook the BLK/Lav to the motor by itself, I loose my power and go back to ground.

So looks like I have a short. Fun fun fun. I guess I will rewrap my wiring harnesses after I take the apart.

This one is actually baffling me a bit. Am I missing something easy...

Well bummer, I am having to pull the entire harness to fix this issue. Going to be a bigger job then what I want to do.

Any advice on things I should do while I am in there. I basically am redoing my front compartment.... I would love to redo the headlingt connections that come through the front fender...

Very, very rare to actually have a problem in the actual wiring, nearly always at one end or the other. Don't remember what else is on the wiper circuit, did you remove those wires from the fuse terminal so that you are only seeing the wiper circuit.
