    Best place to ground radio?

What is the best and closest place to ground my "new" original radio?

I grounded mine where the support bracket mounts to the chassis at the back of the radio. Close and a good solid ground.

I grounded mine to the steering wheel, where the horn also grounds.

So I grounded it the same was as the previous radio had
been ground to a screw in the painted metal panel
behind the support bar. Once it was connected including
the ground, the power wire, antenna, and speaker
wires I found that it did not work. BTW, while I was
connecting the wires the hot yellow wire touched the metal
sleeve and there was a short puff of smoke from under
the dash. I looked under the dash but could see no
damage. The radio did not work. I contacted the supplier
and they asked for a photo of the connection. After
I sent it they said they would exchange it after their
current Holiday (what holiday?) Now I am waiting.
Originally I sourced the radio from them because I assumed
it was more likely the radio would work and that they
would stand behind their product. I don't think I will
    use them again.
