For '71T I believe it is plastic one. I have a metal one on my '71T Targa after my plastic one melted.

My 71T bought in 73 had a metal top

My 71 T is plastic. We used to retro fit metal ones for partial melted plastic ones. So it's hard to say for certain what was original, but generally 71 was plastic.

Thanks for input....after check of parts list there were 3 different part numbers but the description says "plastic" for 71 and 72 ....There is a different part number for MFI but it still says " plastic",
So where did the metal version come from maybe 73 and later.
Very interested to understand the change ,...besides the warping of plastic and lack of good fit.

I have a couple of plastic ones, I was running this one on my 914-6 before I switched to K&N filters, snorkel is correct for a 916-6 as it goes in the opposite direction, not sure of the body it has the plastic bottle on the back.

Also have this one that is plastic and snorkel for a 914-6, but backside bottle is metal and has a few more clamps for hoses.

The second air filter housing I would guess is for the 914-6, just like the one that was on my 914-6. It has the correct snorkel and the mounting clips, recesses and I think holes for the brass cold start tubes that are missing. The housing could fit other models. The first housing pictured is not like the one on my 73 that has no recesses. The first pictured also has the recesses on the back where the cold start would be, but no mounting clips or holes. Could it be a transition housing into 72 when the cold start was moved to the air stacks? Did 71's use the cold start tubes in the plastic housings? Gordon

My 5/71 T has a plastic housing and plastic snorkel with a metal band around the snorkel mounting hole. It did not have mounting clips or holes for the cold start brass tubes - I thought those were just for MFI? It looks more like the first housing pictured, but I can't recall about the breather being metal or plastic.

I have a spare metal housing that is an earlier version if You decide to use metal.

My 10 / 70 built '71T coupe with Zeniths also has a completely plastic air cleaner (box and snorkel). I have pictures somewhere I can post when I get home. Mine has flat spots on the back for the enrichment circuits that were eventually removed but it doesn't have an holes for them since the system had been deleted from production by then.
