In Philly/ New York next week, P-car related stuff?

I'll be in Philly/NYC area next week, Aug 1-3 and have a couple days to kill. Would love to see some early 911 or P-car related stuff in the area. I'll have a rental(sigh), so I can venture to nearby places if need be. About the only thing I know of is Sloan, but am a little on the fence about stopping. Any local meets or get togethers those days? I'm an Early S member and a PCA member.

If you're going to be in Philadelphia you should check out the Simeone Museum.....it's one of the best private international sports / racing car collections in the country. The original Porsche 917-043 LH lemans car is on display also.

If you have time, stop by Sloan. Impressive place to say the least.

I just heard Richard Sloane passed away about a month ago. I emailed him about a week ago. That would explain why I never heard back. I wonder if the dealership is still operating?

That's sad. I was there just a few months ago and have been talking to him over the last 6 months.

The dealership seems to be running led by his son. There's some recent Instagram action too.

So we made it to the Simeone museum last week. Thanks for the lead, Cal. Other than one other guy, my brother and I had the place to ourselves. It was a lot of fun. Not much Porsche content, but great nonetheless. The best part was, my brother and I were poking our heads into the back shop where they work on the cars and a big guy comes up behind us in a coarse toned Philly accent and says "hey! you guys can't be in here!!" we turn around startled and he gets this big grin on his face and then invites us into the garage to take a look at this 1930's Talbot they are getting ready for Pebble Beach. He tells us all the little unique features of it and says it might bring half a million at auction. Then he points out this other race car in the shop, a French canvas and wood car built with a Harley Davidson motor. I thought the seating position was pretty unique. Only skinny Frenchmen need apply. The headlights on this DuPont were the coolest thing. Like something out of Metropolis. Awesome. In all, worth the hour or so we spent at the museum. Just wish we'd been there on a day they take them out back for a spin.

Oh, one more comment. I'm a midwesterner and consider myself an adopted Chicagoan. You folks in Philly, even though I love your gruff manner and red-blooded patriotism, got nothing on Chicago Italian Beef! Stopped at Pat's and Geno's and was completely underwhelmed. John's Roast Pork on the other hand was worth returning for. Fantastic.

    Glad you enjoyed the visit!

Pats & Genos are unfortunately tourist traps at best these days. I'm glad you made it to John's Roast Pork which is one of our hidden gems.

Pats and Genos are for atmosphere not food, Johns is for food not atmosphere.
