Odd body color code on 1970

I've sent for the COA, so a more authoritative answer is forthcoming. But for now, I'm kind of stumped. This 1970 911E I just picked up is now black, but with hints of a light color underneath. Now, the paint code tag reads literally "14 14-H-". I can't find a code '14' for 1970, only 114 or 414. No sign of a 3rd digit on the tag. Also, the lack of a dash between the numbers and the added dash after the 'H' is odd.

Through a few scratches (and licks of color on the tag's corners) the undercoat is very light, may be a top-coat or a primer. Appears like a pale yellow or light tan. Code 414 is 'Signal Yellow', but again no 3rd digit on the tag and the under color doesn't look like Signal Yellow.

    Any ideas?

    I think Karmann-built cars tended to have a 2-digit code paint code, a space, then the code repeated for a coupe. I had a 64 64 Karmann-built 71

I would have expected the tag to be stamped '116' for Signal Orange, the generic Porsche code for the color. The code 1414 would specify that color on a coupe in the build specifications.

    Repo?
    Maybe.

Or on a car with less than 13k miles.

Sometimes strange paint colors was because of a customer requested color. I found a 58 Coupe once that had a paint code that started with a 9, when the rest of the Reutter numbers started with 7. I went to my Factory Deep Throat source and asked him what it was, Lacquel Havana Brown, a color used primarily by Mercedes and Lambretta, but someone wanted it and Porsche obliged them.

It was a cool car, we used the find on our dash magnets, if anyone wants one let me know, they are FREE.

A Karmann 911 coupe in Signal orange should read 1414 and the targa version is 1410.
The original Karmann plate on my 914-6 shows only 14.
Maybe it depended on who was doing the stamping at Karmann on the day.

    Cheers
