    Targa cover vent seals

Redoing the Targa cover/seals and I see that there are limited options for the seals that go around the Targa cover vents.? Looks like Porsche sells originals, but a little pricey. Has anybody simply rolled up some Dum Dum and placed it around the Targa bar vent area and installing the cover right over it.? Seems this would do the trick easily, but only downfall might be it melting in high heat/sun exposure.? Any tips here appreciated

I'm thinking dum dum/3m strip caulk will do the trick./ Just want to hear what other folks did. ThxName: Vent seal 1.JPG

I think they glued some kind of batting there, I'll look at one I have today.

As best I can tell,,,,,and remember, they just glued some fiber batting to the roll bar cover, which kept it from metal to metal contact and making noise. Judging from the remains on a bar cover that is shown here, I think a material that I've pictured, was just glued on judging by the pattern here. I doubt any kind of 'dum-dum' was used here. You probably can't find it listed because it was just something they cut up and stuck on as they were building.

I think I used some single sided foam tape. Closed cell. Or felt tape glued on.Both come in rolls, different thicknesses and widths. All you want to do is avoid vibration.

I am glad to see some details of the Targa being discussed. For the record, I prefer Targas - I have always preferred Targas. You get so much more with a Targa, the top comes off, the stout stainless steel Targa bar cover, the gold TARGA insignia on the side, the Jules Verne rear window. The Targa has a funky-cool, 70's vibe - not for everybody, but in a funky-cool color like Gold metallic it can't be denied.

Ed Mayo is correct about felt like material. I have the Targa bar off my 98k original mile, two owner 1970 911 T Targa and it has felt like strips glue around the vent opening. I will post some pics tomorrow that show the original material.

I have been told that the best interior cover for the Targa Vent is from App Biz, can somebody comment or confirm this?

Thanks Ed and Rodger (miss my house in Jupiter!) I have to to Micheals craft store and pick up a bunch of felt for the various areas on the targa/roll bar, might as well the seal material to the mix. The inside interior pieces on the Targa abr are in very nice shape thankfully. Post as many pics as you can, always interested in addl reference pics
