header a mile away from muffler inlets

s/s headers from sierra Madre (can see now why they were cheap ) muffler inlets a solid 1/2 inch away , is there any s/s spacers on the market to use in with this issue or do i need to cut the flange off and extend the inlet pipes

Some of the Dansk Mufflers have been made with stub pipes that are quite short. They sell them as a 75-89 MY component and they leave the gap you have found.

I think that the fault is with the muffler and not the heat exchanger.

You can modify the exhaust hanger bracket with a few minutes work and it will all line up quite well.
