    Wooden Steering Wheel ID

    Hello

A customer drove into the shop yesterday and I noticed he had a wooden steering wheel that I have never seen before. Anybody have any information about this steering wheel? The car is a 1969 911 T.

    Thanks

That is s a crazy looking beast. It honestly looks like an original wood wheel with wood embellishments/accents added to fill the gap between the butterfly and the rim. It has all the characteristics of the wood you see on early wheels, but with some extra stuff glued on.

I agree with the add-on theory , although the grain is so consistent.

The rim does look like an original '65-'66 wheel... Maybe.

What's the diameter? Mine measures 16.5" - 420 mm from outside edge to outside edge.

I'm thinking that maybe you have an early wheel to which somebody added those wood bits to make the later horn pad look ok. Are those wood bits on the back of the wheel or just the front?

Maybe it's a million dollar prototype that has escaped into the wild?

The wooden pieces are on the front and the back of the wheel, craftsmanship is very high. If this is a one-off then I want to find this guy to restore my next wooden wheel.
