    S? advise needed

Could somebody advise what i have here?
Bought this 911 a while ago,and time has come to start this project.
Had a look at the invoice and see 911S,is it possible to see from the vin what i have here?
Vin is 11835425 the build sheet says 911S instrumente englisch,gummip.f.stobstangen.vo.u.hi,etc etc
Is it a normal T whit S instruments ,S whit English instruments?
Tried to post some pics, but no luck at that
    Thx Dave

    Dave,

I believe your VIN is consistent with a '68 U.S. import 911 standard coupe........

    Interesting Dave,

From the invoice your VIN is consistent with a Karmann coupe, and your engine # is a type 901/14 and consistent with a U.S. 911L...

Maybe the '68 experts can unwind this a bit more....

    Cheers

I am far from an expert but all US delivered 911s (911 and 911L) in 68 came with a 901/14 engine if equipped with a std trans.

    Ciao

No, It is a 68 911, not a 911L. Delivered in the USA with Emission control. If your car has "S" gauges (oil level and oil pressure gauges), they were added by a previous owner and not Porsche. US delivered 911s both 911 and 911L all shared the same engine (901/14). Sorry, it is not a 911S or a 911L but it is still cool, none the less.

    Ciao

    Jim
PS: After, actually reading your Kardex, your car was equipped with S gauges from the factory. I don't think I have ever seen that before on a 68.

After referring to the "Little Specifications Booklet" I think chassis 11835425 corresponds to a Karmann-built, USA-spec 911 (non-L). The 911 (non-L) had the same 130 DIN hp 901/14 engine as the 911L but lacked some of the fancy trim. You do have the "S-instruments" (fuel level, oil level, oil temp, & oil pressure) and wood steering wheel which are some of the nicer things--you don't have Fuchs alloy wheels and some of the chrome trim (I think). The 1968 lineup is more mysterious than the other years.

    Transmission 328xxxx denotes a 1968 902/01 five speed.

Champagne yellow wasn't a standard color for the US market so that's an uncommon combination. Your car might have been special ordered by its first owner as opposed to ordered for the showroom.

    Hello Jim
More clear as this it dos not come.
Great, know where i am heading now.
Went trough a whole deal whit this car,it was taken from me for almost a year by the goverment.
A rookie officer of 27 years told me the chassis nr was not stamped 'straight'.
Used info of this forum that many vin nrs of the swb models where not straight!
Had to go trough Porsche and court to prove the car was real.
Anyway car back after 1 year after a lot of $,and ready to start.
    Thx Dave
