Route suggestion needed. Colorado to SoCal

Picking up a car next month. I've got a few days to get it from denver to Costa Mesa. Any roads that shouldn't be missed?

Got it, Chris. I plan on taking your route and hopefully hooking up with you. Details soon.

Any other input from rocky mountain folks, fire away.

If your route starts near Denver, I would include US 285 and US 160. I had a wonderful time driving these roads last summer in an old Honda Accord, en route from Boston, MA to Long Beach, CA. We got the brakes to smoke, but we saw some wonderful scenery.

If following 160 out of the southwest corner of Colorado into AZ - then onto 89 south, do a little driving tour out of Flagstaff to Prescott Valley via 89A (thru Sedona).

If you get to I-10 from AZ into CA take the route north into Joshua Tree National Park and the fork in the road to Yucca Valley, then back across I-10 thru Palm Desert to find 74 up the mountain. At Mountain Center take the Right onto 243, back up to I-10 in Banning.

Don't wear out the steering wheel….

Denver to 285 to Fairplay to Hoosier Pass to Frisco to I70 to Copper Mountain to Leadville to Hoosier Pass to Aspen to Ouray to Durango. That will keep you busy.

Thanks to so many members, I was able to choose a route that got me from denver to Durango yesterday. The weather was perfect. The car had some breathing issues at some of the higher elevations but was easy to work thru the challenges.

The car, oh...formerly owned by a phili buddy who moved to boulder but didn't have enough storage space. Very early (84) BMW m6/m635, heavily breathed on by dinan back in the day and recently treated to a motor rebuild and more upgrades. Looking forward to seeing how she drives at sea level.

So I took the scenic route thru Leadville, hwy 82, 133 and 550. Traffic was light, the weather was stunning and the car brought many smiles, mile after mile. amazing roads. Just amazing.

More fun today. Should be in Long Beach tonight.
