    Small Flag Mirror...

I went to swap a door mirror under warranty with Porsche today (glass discolored) and was surprised to notice that the shape had changed a fair degree along with a new thicker gasket that holds in the glass. The parts guys mentioned the part number had changed so probably a new supplier which isn't surprising as this is the second mirror I've had fail in this way.

Unsure which shape looks most original, they allowed me to keep both for moment but I do need to return one.

Very hard to photograph and ignoring the fact that a RHD small flag mirror never existed in period, what are opinions on which looks most correct?....

I hunted out photos to compare and have this of an early original RS, anybody have a better close up of an original flag mirror?

A sign maybe that Porsche are working to improve the quality of their new parts?.....I appreciate your thoughts?

    Cheers,

To my memory the left one is more correct. I may have a junk one I could look at tomorrow.

I too think the left one more correct. The discoloration may be coming from using an ammonia based glass cleaner. Mirrors don't seem to like ammonia.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I agree that the wider gasket looks wrong although I suspect the actual shape of the new mirror is more accurate?.....photos would be helpful

The earlier mirror was never cleaned with anything more than soapy water, just poor quality.

    Cheers,

    Yes, the left one.

Thickness of the gasket is off, yes.

I see several very small differences, and the original, to my recollection, does not have even subtle ridges in the housing.

Thank you for taking the time to share this.

Here are some pictures of another original,,,,,I think the definition of the pressing on the back side is 'softer' than yours as shown on the right. Then again I could be all wet!!

-Whats the best approach to replacing the mirror?

-If one just wants to take a mirror apart, say to substitute parts, does the glass have to come out?

    Thumbs up

Here's another group of shots from 2 original mirrors; 5 of my spare and 3 of the one on the car....

Notice what happens when someone puts the wrong length screw in the base on the mirror on the car... It took me years to figure out what that dimple was for....

    Hope this helps,

Looks to me like the OP is of passenger side mirrors, did they make original ones for the passenger side or just repros?
