Thread: Is my door correct for a 72 911

Is my door correct for a 72 911

I have tried to attach a photo in 'manage attachments' of one of my doors on my 72 Targa with the panel removed. If it has attached, are they the correct doors as the ones I viewed at Goodwood Rival did not have the handle that mine has.

    looks correct to me.
the lower screw holding the lever is incorrect.

looking at the door hinge bolts makes me think it is not an early modelyear 72

That's an "electric window" door. Not sure when the first one of these hit the streets . . .

I think 72 was the last year of the latch mechanism held in place with 5mm screws. After that they were 6mm. G.Led

I am sure one of the experts will chime in when Porsche changed from the "star" type of door hinge bolts to the hex head bolt..my 01/72 build 1972 model year has the "star" hinge bolts...and my 10/72 1973 model year has the standard hex hinge bolts...I am just not sure when Porsche changed over...If I were guessing, I would guess they switched over to hex bolts in Sept. when the factory started making 1973 model year cars...but like all things Porsche, they probably used the "star" bolts until they bins were empty and then started using hex head bolts.

what is interesting about that door, is that at some point, someone took the time to repaint the inside panel of the door....it has been my experience that back in the day when these cars were just used cars and they were repainted, the painters did not bother to take the entire door apart to paint the inside panel...interesting...and it doesn't look like it was a color change

Dave, my own personal observation is somewhere between #661 and 1442 as these are both my 72 S's and the early has the XZN bolts, and the latter has the hex.
