Thread: Solex 40PI Intake Manifolds

    Solex 40PI Intake Manifolds

We need to make a few sets of Intake Manifolds to suit the old 40PI carbs as we have several manifolds in a very poor condition and they are increasingly difficult to find.

We have just made a set of patterns for both the Left and Right Hand Sides and we will make some Aluminium 'loose' castings next week.

If they work out correctly we will mount the patterns on a board, add the running system and cast them in AZ91 Magnesium Alloy.

First castings - they will be machined next week and any 'tweaks' needed made to the patterns and then good to go

Chris, do you see the lower casting, rightmost stack? See how there is a flat area above the head flange? That flat area was likely caused by the grinding wheel the factory used to flatten the top of the flange. It also creates space to swing a wrench (er, spanner) to tighten the nut.

My original first-series sand cast Weber Manifolds had the same flat area-- they were first put in the plating solution, which I suspect was a ferric nitrate bright pickle, then the machining operation was performed, leaving the cut area dull gray, compared to the shiny silver of the rest of the manifold. This is another way I know it was a machining operation.

Anyway, you might want to consider that when you set up the toolpath for final machining. Looking great by the way!

Well, this explains why I haven't received Nadella parts.

    (Nice work though.)

    Chris,

    How's this project coming?

And I still need Nadella parts.

    Thanks.
