    W: 911s 2.4

    Hi all,

I found this great forum yesterday and thought hopefully it's a good place find a car and to meet some fellow enthusiasts.
I must confess I am as green as they come when it come to Porsche's so go easy on me..

It's a strange situation that I am here as I have decided a change of classic is needed and I have always loved the 911 shape. Hopefully I can start finding our more about them before taking the plunge.

I am looking for a 911s 2.4 and would consider anything as long as its complete and the history is right. I have seen some of the cars for sale in the UK and I know there is a 2.0l up for auction soon.

Any leads or pointers welcomed as quite frankly I don't know what to look out for at the moment.

    Many thanks,

    Rob

    Welcome Rob.
You're going to get a lot of info vomited out in your direction; some of it may even be useful.

It's always nice to hear stories of new converts. What led you toward 911's? What "classic" are you changing from? Why now? How did you "find" the forum? (didn't know it was lost?)

    I am a bit curious: Are you looking for a 2.4 or a 2.0?

    Hi Frank,

    Thanks for the heads up!

    Many questions..

I have a BMW E30 M3 Sport Evolution that I may sell/swap/trade. I just love the look of the 70's models (from childhood) much like how I like my 80's BMW. The high revving nature and power the 2.4s has to offer suits my driving style and if I am changing out my E30 I would rather buy a similar ultimate (apart from RS) version model. It's a personal preference.

I 'found' the forum on google - I did not know it existed before I typed in 911s forum...

    2.4.

update : why now? Because I just need a change and fancy one. Could be a project car i don't mind. Just needs to be genuine and honest like my M3. Also the less parts I have to find the better...

If you are in the U.K. you should look up DDK-online which is the U.K. equivalent of this site.

There are two restored 2.4 S models for sale in the U.K. that I know about. One is £160k and the other is £200k. Both done by respected U.K. specialists. If this is too rich then there is a private ad for an unrestored 2.4S in the U.K. for around £130k. If this is too rich then you are going to have to look for a 2.4 E or T model which are cheaper (but just as much to restore as an S) so I would advise you to buy the best E or T you can. The costs to restore are higher and take longer than you think as seen on some of the detailed resto threads on DDK.

Good luck and hope you enjoy researching and eventualy finding your car.

    Regards

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to browse to get informed and entertained (Frank) on these cars. Our community is spread all over the world and we are a passionate bunch if nothing else. Joining the DDK forum is also a wise recommendation as the general membership is definitely closer to home for you. I would also recommend you find a copy of "Original Porsche" by Peter Morgan. I'm pretty sure it's out of print but they pop up on EBay. I just bought one from a newbie fried for $15. Its is a good reference book covering the evolution of the 911 through the series. That said, do what you can to drive a few examples of these cars. I think you will find that each year and model have a uniqueness all their own which may help guide you down a particular path. The bottom line....they are all good in their own particular way. Enjoy the hunt and keep us posted.

I seem to remember a fully optioned 73S that was pretty cheap. Original owner died and left it to his kids who wanted nothing to do with it. Unfortunately it's some one-off paint to sample color.
