70-S - MFI fuel filter bracket mounting??

Of the hundreds of photos I took during the dismantling of the car, I seem to have missed details on the fuel filter mounting. What confuses me is I swear that the round rubber blocks (in the photo) were mounted in a way that they were outside of the engine bay and in the inner fender area. They had undercoating on them and the head of the bolts were also covered with undercoating and weathered. This of course seems to make little sense as I would think (and the parts book seems to confirm) that the rubbers should serve to isolate/cushion between the inner panel engine bay side and the fuel filter bracket. Also curious why this bracket even requires the insulators vs. the bracket being hard-mounted. Thoughts would be most appreciated

They're just pieces of tubing stuffed in the holes. I suspect the rubber isolation mounting was to prevent fuel foaming in the filter that would have happened if solidly mounted.

Ed - thank you. Yes, the parts book calls it 'tubing' but certainly VERY thick walled tubing. The original tubing pieces are expanded with age and won't fit through the holes, but one end of each piece is crimped enough from being fit into the holes originally...just enough to snap into the sheet metal holes. I tend to over-think things...will just assemble with the tubing between the sheetmetal and bracket and call it done . Thanks again.

The tubing fits through the hole and is expanded by the 6 mm bolt to fit tightly in the hole and hold the bracket . You need a heat gun to soften the old pieces to push them in the holes or buy new ones .
