    Question on 700 mile S

I often use the photos of the 700 mile S for historical correctness. Last night while installing my muffler I checked the photos to see which way the muffler flange bolts face. I know irrelevant. However, PET shows the nut facing the rear of the car, but the photos of the 700 mile car has the bolt facing rearward. It then dawned on me that the sump plate cover is facing north south in the photo. All my research shows that the sump plate should face westward, or 9 o'clock, which is how it seems only logical due to the oil pump pick up. Any opinions? Thanks Name: 70 Engine.jpg

I think you will find that one of the muffler bolts won't install from the front, so if you want them all facing the same way the bolts need to be installed from the rear. The sump plate magnet on the early engines can be installed in multiple positions, as along as it is not Right below the pickup tube. I always put it back like that as direction of travel moves stuff back towards the rear of the engine. Gordon
