    FS: @AK - 1973 Porsche 911 E Targa 80k Orig. Mi 2-CA Owners - Not Mine

Paul and Ed have been working on this 911 for nearly 2-years now. I've helped them here and there with some little things. They were pretty diligent about really trying to preserve as much of the originality of the car. It has a cool back story and is a beautiful semi-survivor. I don't think pics do it justice.

All the details, photos, history, etc. etc. are on their website at www.autokennel.com

    Price is $125k

Nice! I'm favorably biased towards '73E's. GLWS.

Very unique 'E' configuration (no 'S' equipment package) - that is does not have the 'S' chin spoiler or instruments, and comes with standard exterior deco trim.
But it has the most important feature, an 'E' tuned 2.4L MFI engine!

    For the record:
    VIN: 9113210990
    Engine: 6231940 (911/52)
    Trans: 7730826 (915/02)
Color: Silver Metallic (936)/Black Leather (66)
    Mileage: 80,100
    Price: US$124,990

Thanks Doug. Yeah...very strange. It is a very late build '73 with an AG build/not KG.

We did take the original rubber bumperrettes off...saved them, but just couldn't put them back on.

Do you know the production date?
I have "1132" and door jamb sticker says May 73.
    Which month is "0990"?

Below is the compliance/date sticker. It is dated 06/73. You will see it notes body by "AG".

Thank you! What to think about the fact that "0990" was built in 06/73 when "1132" was buil in May. Different assembly lines for Targa and Coupe?

I think it has something to do with what happened in the production process for this car. Somewhere in the production process, this car got put on hold...who knows why. The fact that it is so "option-deleted" might be a clue. As we know most U.S. cars by '73 came with a lot of options thrown in at the factory. And, E's were usually the most optioned cars ordered. So, to have an E with only Fuchs and tinted glass is highly unusual. One suggestion from a specialist/historian is that the car might have been slated for Europe and for some reason, wasn't delivered and at the very end, they threw on some Fuchs, rubber DOT bumperettes and shipped it to the U.S.

We recently sold a '65 911 that was a July '65 build, but it's original engine number was lower than most cars built in February of '65 and it had a bunch of '64 parts on it...that car too started production much earlier and was put on hold for one reason or another. Not sure how often it happens today, but I've seen quite few examples of this delayed production and rerouted delivery.

Different numbering for Targas and coupes. I would think that 990 was actually quite late production, as I think there were only e.g.. 930 S Targas.
They probably produced a few more E Targas.

Correct you are David. There were 1,055 (numbered sequentially per Pat's Red book) E Targas built in 1973 for the world (not many). So, there were only 65 after this one.

Thank you both for the explanation. I'm like Doug and a little bit biased toward 73Es ;-)
