SWB undercoating details & rocker finish

While stripping the undercoating of my car I have found quite a few traces of tar. I would like to confirm if my observations correspond with those of other who have stripped low milage cars.

    - Bottom part of the rocker seems to have been brushed with tar and not the regular undercoating material this goes all the way and a bit around the seam with the floor pan
    - Rear bulkhead seems to have ben covered liberally with tar not just in the areas where the wiring loom etc. etc exit like in the front of the car

With regard to the regular undercoating, the texture seems to differ slightly from floor pans (very rough sand paper like texture) to the front wheel wells bit smoother. This is probably due to gun angles

I have had a couple low mileage SWB cars and saw no tar on the lower rockers but I did see brushed on black paint.

I've definitely seen tar on the rear bulkhead but not on the rockers of any cars I've seen .

It appears to me they sprayed the floors etc, but went back over and brushed in the rockers. It's definitely thicker than paint (unlike the later cars).

I cleaned the heck out of the underside of this car. Steam scrub, steam scrub, over and over. I resisted the urge to make it pretty. The only thing I did do was brush in areas where the under coat had flaked off, leaving bare metal. I used SEM trim black so it blended in. Unlike the later PVC undercoat, the SWB stuff was just sprayed on bare metal and really didn't adhere particularly well.

No, not like the later trim with the profile. According to 'Esoterik' there was only a plastic sheet under the trim that only went as far as the edge.
