1QuickS at Freddie's for spit shine

Took my car to Freddie Hernandez of Vintage Sportscar Restorations to have it color sanded & polished so it will look nice when I sell it. I painted it 15 years ago & decided to assemble it without the finishing process since the paint job was good enough for who it was for. He also reinstalled the front windshield. I installed it with new "OEM" rubber from Pelican but he pronounced it as junk and corrected the windshield installation to his satisfaction.

I'm kinda sad since after 37 years of ownership & tweeks the car has become more a liability to preserve than a fun ride. I never intended it to become such, probably I would not have decided to sell if it was originally a 67 normal or a 912 with a six installed.

Freddie showing the determined look he would "sport" when dusting off a Vette.

So what did you get to "replace" it, Paul?

    Don't do it Paul!

944S; it was extremely difficult to settle on anything as a "replacement" but the boss suggested that since I "bleed" Porsche I needed to stay with that conviction.

I am in the process of making it like I think it would have been if it was built in 1967 and then modified for track work; 944 "Sports Purpose" style. So far I have deleted: power steering, air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks, pop-up headlights, side marker lights & cruise control. I'm currently working on replacement turn signals and will make 924GTS headlamps. Front & rear 5 MPH bumpers will also be dumped. Currently has track ready suspension but I'll tweek that too with Delrin bushings & spherical ball joints. In its future I'm thinking a 3.5 liter, BMW straight six with DCOEs and a "S" specification build would provide proper power & the six cylinder engine sounds I will miss with the 911 gone. Initial investigation looks like it will fit & with little weight penalty.

The 944 will not be a collector car in my lifetime & there is little scrutiny about how I adulterate it so I took my gloves off.

bravo to you.......must be a hard move to make.

a straight 6 from a bimmer into a 944?....yikes....original to say the least....

    pics!!! of car now?......

The straight six is down the road a bit, perhaps too far down the road to accomplish. I have a link to a Bavaria with a strong six in it as inspiration; it would be nice to see something like it in the 944; check the dyno run starting at the 1:40 time line:

Picture is as I received it, still looks much like it but that will change. Wheels are 993 7's & 9's but Harvey will widen fronts to 8" when he can get to it. Front bumper will go & plain aluminum filler will close the opening. Front turn signals will either be simple teardrops or amber, twin-filament bulbs under the 924 GTS style perspex covering the headlamp openings.

    I had a 944 turbo.
It was fast, stuck like glue, a great daily driver.
    I regret selling it.

I hope you're not telling us that your time is limited? They are already climbing and they are great cars to Drive. I miss my 944 S2 Cabrio in a bad way
