I dont think anyone is going to touch this, So many threads on oil and what is the best, year makes a difference in my book.
May try the search engine or out on Google the Ferrari papers for oil. I use BP 20-50 but debating M1 for my 71 with low mileage

    Regards

I'll chime in. On my 73S and 88 911 I use Valvoline VR1 20-50 Racing. It's readily available and is supposed to have enough zinc. Other opinions on this oil are welcome. Cheers

I'm assuming BP = Brad Penn and not British Petroleum.
    I like Castrol GTX 20w/50
A friend likes Kendall GT-1 Racing 20w/50 in his '74 Carrera
Another friend uses Valvoline VR-1 Racing 20w/50 in his '79 SuperCarrera
    Another friend likes Brad-Penn 20w/50 in a '60 Austin-Healey 3000
Another friend uses Shell-Rotella 15w/40 in his '66 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda Roadster
    etc...
carrots, oats, apples, sugarcubes, and 93+ octane

Bob, I read it and maybe I'm mentally challenged but I went away still not sure about which oil is best for our cars. I'll go back and reread it but in the meantime is Valvoline VR1 20-50 racing acceptable for early air cooled 911's? Thanks.

    Jim,
    I use the VR1 in my '74 911 and '68 912.
I usually buy it on Amazon or when Autozone has it on sale.
Amazon gives free shipping on a 6 qt case but charges for the 12 qt one.
I order 2/ 6 qt cases and the shipping is free. Go figure.

Jim- And in my opinion (and others will sure to chime in) stay away from any synthetic oils, straight or blends. Many a non or little leaking engine starts to weep after using synthetics.

I've been using Mobil 1 ,15w-50 on every air cooled and older car I've owned since 1975 with absolutely no issues.
Whatever you use, change it every 5k miles or twice a year.
It costs about 25dls for a 5qt jug at Walmart.
