70-S front oil cooler rubber o-rings - question please

During diassembly, I found these o-rings (new ones in photograph) in the position as shown, but they are as loose fitting as the originals and therefore don't seem to do what they were apparently designed to do which is to seal between the oil cooler and the two holes in the steel stone shield that fits over the cooler lines. I've tried installing these o-rings in various ways with no better seal. The I.D. of these rubber o-rings seem too large and the O.D. is not large enought to seal the shield opening. Thoughts would be most appreciated

I don't think it is an issue. So much air leaks around its ok. The 911R also used a closing panel below the coolers to force air into the coolers, absent in 69-71 911s. I've seen hot water pipe insulators cut into donuts to tighten up the fit. The R we did had two of those seals you show on each fitting, but they looked thicker than yours. Gordon

Gordon - thank you for the prompt and helpful reply, and the accompanying photo. I too thought of 'improving' the design/seal with pipe insulation or other material. As you note, likely not critical. Steve
