Got rid of aftermarket wheel arches...

    Hi,

I recently got rid of chromed wheel arches on my '71 911E which were secured with pop rivets . Good news is that no glue was involved...
How would you suggest I deal with the 2 mm wide holes I have around the arches now - See picture below? Sintofer (or US equivalent) and touch paint? Any antirust product application suggested prior?
    Any suggestion welcome.

    Thanks Olivier

Are you sure they were aftermarket? Pretty common factory option on 70s 911s.

I'm partial to POR15 products. They make a filler for holes like this. Serves a dual purpose of stopping rust and filling the hole. Then dab on a spot of paint when it's set up.

Those weren't "aftermarket". They were installed at the factory. I happen to like them, too.

    Jim and all,

Trust me they were aftermarket: they don't show on the COA, and I found an invoice in the paperwork which came with the car for those installed by a local garage dated back in '99...
Thanks for the tip Eminence Gris!

If your COA came from Atlanta there's a good chance it's wrong.

I'm going to bet your trim was OEM.

Here's my COA from Germany and it list the trim.

I hope you didn't throw the trim in the trash.

I think there is some confusion in terms. I'm sure they are correct, Factory parts that may have been added later. "Aftermarket" refers to items that were made by another manufacturer and is not the correct term to use in this case. Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards

    Jim
