Hello,
can some of the steering wheel brains trust please advise on how to tell what date stamps represent on these two early ebonite 420mm (67,61) plus the 420mm (1987) wooden steel frame wheel in the pics below?
Rgds,
Sean.

Yes the vdm wheels were stamped YEAR/MONTH (probably didn't think about what would happen in the '70's!) so the first wheel in Sean's opening post '76' is June 1967, the second '61' being January 1966......I am afraid I don't have any experience of the wooden wheels so can't help with that one and also don't know why the last extended hub would be unstamped.

my wheel from my July 73 build 1973E (where a lot of the parts are date stamped May 1973) has the part number and 94. stamped into it, (and i think i can be reasonably certain that it would not be a 1969 one given when the car was built) so it would be interesting if the post 1970 numbers could be deciphered as well. I know, as far as is possible, that this wheel was on the car when built as the ebonite extended hub wheel was on the options list for the car.

All the 1970 onwards vdm wheels I have had showed the day as two digit year (i.e. 7x ) and then month as one or two digit depending upon month; if I was a betting man I would say your wheel was indeed an April 1969 production given that the part number was available from the 1969MY and that an extended hub ebonite wheel was probably not a frequent build option.

thanks tim....interesting. I have another extended hub wheel on the car at present - this one a leather one that i know is not original to the car because (1) I bought it and (2) leather ones were only available until the 72 Model year. I will have to look at that one to see what it has on it.
edit here it is........ 811 can this really be a November 68 wheel on what was a 1972 911 before i bought the wheel some years ago?
