Bilstein green dot jacks - differences

    Hi all,

I am trying to find out the correct type of jack for my 1974 2.7 Carrera MFI that I have recently bought.

Hopefully some of you can can help as I have searched to find a definitive answer but had no joy.

From what I have read there are 3 main types:

    1) with a lollypop handle
    2) with a small teardrop shaped pressing in the handle
    3) with a longer teardrop shaped pressing in the handle

There is also another version with a larger base but I gather that is for much later cars.

The vehicle was delivered in November 1973 and is a UK spec car.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

    It all helps

I have seen threads where the 2nd type is as used in the 1973 RS.

Maybe the 2nd type ran into 74/75 cars and then they switched to the 3rd type.
Trouble is I have seen threads saying type 3 is the early type as well...

Yes hopefully the jack experts will post the definitive answer!

My 1973.5 has the 2nd type.

I really don't like using these jacks. Everything has to be perfect in order for them to work properly.

I carry a small bottle jack in the car.

Ha ha it's not for using, it's for completeness.

I have one of those big jacks too :-)

After a bit of research I think I may have out the differences in the later jacks thanks to a 914 site: http://www.p914.com/p914_tools_jack.htm

1972 to early 1973 has the lollypop curved handle - top image
1973 to early 1975 has the flat handle. 2nd image
Late 1975 to 1976 has the flat handle and the cap is secured differently. The cap has 2 dimples on the top. 3rd image

The last images show the 72-76 jacks side by side in date order running left to right

I need to get out more!

Does anyone actually check these jacks for correctness during judging?

    That matches :-)

Just to add the handle has the small teardrop shaped pressing in the 73-76 jacks and all jacks have a pressed tongue.

Later versions were revised with a cast tongue and at some point the handle changed to have a longer teardrop shaped pressing.
