They did serve beer in the works canteen in those days so maybe the technical artist had a sip too many that day’s lunch-break or maybe an innovation for our Southern Hemisphere friends

No lens but more or less all else correct afaik, posting a photo for folks who like to see early (RHD) rare parts — a real deal old 7045 with Bosch date code on sticker 509 made September 1965 apparently.

Not correct version for my 73 RHD 911 I’ve offered it to someone who has appropriate car who took my other complete one
but might sell or trade what’s shown if he doesn’t need as rare genuine original spares. Lamps as referenced in period literature

Does anyone know when the 7045 and the equivalent LHD were superseded by the H1 on some markets. Was this at the dates of the 1968 model S year update or like the H4 was it date that didn’t coincide with model year change.

The H4 was announced part way through 1972 model year — I posted the announcement the month and year elsewhere. If not in an announcement has it been worked out by looking at unrestored cars - ones that might still have correct original headlamps?

The reason I ask is someone wants to buy one of my pairs of original H1 and I want to be sure whether it is Bosch 7045 RHD or an RHD H1 that is correct for his particular car.

    Interesting point.

Afaik the H1 was introduced into the rhd market for the S models of 1968 only but that does beg the question what lenses the other rhd models of the same year were fitted with. What we really need to do is ask Arfor if his wonderful 1968 London Motor Show car ‘non S’ model rhd was fitted with H1’s or not. I suspect not.

I have no idea if the same was true in the lhd markets.

    Regards
    Mike

Ps 914GT, I still have a complete rhd swb 7045 headlamp unit available for sale. Problem is, finding another to match…..>………… rare as hell.

Thanks Mike. Always appreciate your input. Would be good to get Arfor’s important datapoint to inform if his known early car had H1 or the 7045 continued for a while on the 68 S and to your point more likely non S. It would be good to get some input from any documents and reference cars.

PS If it helps, I also have this earlier headlamp albeit minus the hard to find lens but together with yours it might get 914GT a step closer to the rare as hell pair. As can be seen it is original has the 0301800505 Bosch number on the sticker that my old Bosch to Porsche numbering cross reference document equates to 901.631.101.01 as well as having the 7945 RHD reference and 509 September 65 manufacturing date on a sticker (using the references #24):

    Hello John
I have one, and only one of those 7045 RHD Bosch lenses. I am new to the 911S Registry so bear with me. The lense I
have is not NOS but very close, among the Porsche crowd I would say it is excellent. I only have the one but, if you should
pick up a stone it would be very nice to have a spare. I like to contact via traditional e-mail, I use my wife's e-mail which is
beverlyhodgson@q.com. I am asking $175.00 plus shipping. Best regards Sonny

Bosch used to have an archive site. It had amazing pdfs of period factory docs for all their parts, across all manufacturers. These pdfs are too large to upload to ESR, but not really that big.

I'll add a few screenshots into this thread, as I have done in the past on other threads around lighting.
When I was doing research on the early headlight systems on 911s, I was trying to verify first generation H1 lenses on my car with what the period docs said were correct. This was for a MY69 car (in my signature) that I no longer own. That initial lighting research thread is around here somewhere.

So my research and downloads only went to MY69 and not beyond where this thread has ended up. Maybe someone else grabbed the MY70+ pdfs and could post here.

Here is what Bosch officially had for lighting for MY 65-68 cars:

And here is MY69 related info:
