    Sportomatic Differential Question

Can anyone tell me if I can use a an early (905) sportomatic differential in an 901 manual gearbox build?

    Cheers

John, there are a few dimensional differences between 905 and 901 differentials and they are not, for practical purposes, interchangeable.
I don't currently have a 905 differential to give you specific information on the differences.

    John,
I have some core 905 boxes.

What exactly are you trying to do?

    Hi Frank

Skinning a cat with a bar of soap I suspect

I want to put my original 2.0t engine back into my 69t (which is currently running a 2.7 and 915). Car was originally a sporto, but I don't want it back in the car... I have a spare 66 901 with the early differential, so later 108mm drive flanges won't fit into it. I thought I may be able to transfer the ring from the 66 onto the 905 differential and put it all back into the box and keep the original output flanges/driveshafts.

Basically I'm trying to work out what flange/driveshaft combo could possibly work with what I have... A '66 901 and shafts, '69 905 and shafts, 'and 82 SC 915 and shafts.

I know I can buy a Guard and solve the problem, but the car is for sale...

Play Mr. Potato Head with a chop saw and TIG machine.

We weld up all kinds of combos using a lot more hp than you're probably running.
