    Gearbox ID Please?

Unknown history 901 aluminum transmission, have checked the usual lists but numbers are visually a bit odd. Case is '66. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Gents. It was the serial number that I was mainly confused about - the 130616. What do those numbers tell me Jim?

Sorry, I goofed. The serial number denotes it as a 911 trans. They were used in both 911s and 912s, though.

So the blue sky Motorsport info suggest this is after 6/65 or 66-69 911-912. Seems the 68 cars had different range.
The serial number is simply that the range was 130001-131500 so they made 1500 or so of that type.
If this is from your car the COA would clear up Year ..
Or if someone has a trans in this range that might help get close to the actual year

Great, that helps - this isn't from my 68 so the earlier range and numbers makes sense. The case is cast in 66, so it would all seem to be pretty original or at least as per factory.

    Cheers

    John, it's a 1967 model year 5-speed for a 6-cylinder car. A 68 model would have a 7-digit serial number.
The Blue Sky Motorsports chart is incomplete.

Jon B nailed it, but it is easy to see why there is some confusion. The 902 series were originally for the 912 in 1965 (or 902 during development). Then in 1966 both 911 & 912 shared the trans out of the same serial series. For 1967 & 1968 there were individual series for each of 911 & 912. Here is the 902/1 5 speeds, & same goes for the 902/0 series.
    902/1 220001 912 ending 1965 07 26
    902/1 221722 911 & 912 1966
    902/1 234001 912 1967 5 speed
    902/1 130001 911 1967 5 speed
    902/1 3280001 911 1968 5 speed

BTW, what is the date code on the trans?
