Thread: Yellow Crayon Number Under Dash Pad

Yellow Crayon Number Under Dash Pad

There have been many scattered pictures and reference to this number in various threads including 5 pages on just the crayon that made it, but I have struggled to find a dedicated thread with pictures for comparison so here goes.

Imagine my surprise when I removed the dash pad on 301022 & expected to see the nice yellow Vin number, and all I got was an X (its ok all the other numbers match). Maybe its a tick and the car is special hehe.

So did I get the booby prize or reject of the day or what
    - actually may not be a silly question as the Kardex has listed original engine about six months earlier than the car!

    Anyone else seen this?

My first thought is that the marking is not an 'X'.

Who would write an 'X' starting with such a stroke downwards...

Mine has nothing written at all. Is that because it's a Swiss AMAG import? Was it assembled in Switzerland?

Never with Porsche ! Only GM did this and VW/Amag with some VW Karmann-Ghia models.

    No.

    Way.

    At least not the dash.

After zooming in and using an app, it appears to be a signature.

    "Ferdinand" I believe?

In tearing down our '69E for restoration there is yellow crayon marking what I believe to be the production # as it matches the stamped # on the dash BUT NOT the serial #. I'm of the understanding that the factory stamped a number not tied to the serial #'s on the dashes beginning with the LWB cars. Anyone verify that?
I'd post pics but for some reason I'm having difficulty, maybe due to flying at 36,000 ft. or my ineptness. I'm betting the latter.....Merry Christmas btw.

Yes. For LWB cars the production number is different to the VIN numbers
