Question re: Amco wood shift knobs

I need to replace the shift knob on my '69, and I quite like the styling of the wooden Amco knobs of that period, though finding one is not so easy these days. It appears there were Amco knobs for 10 mm necks for early 356s, and Amco knobs for threaded 15 mm necks for SWB cars. Were there wood Amco knobs for 15 mm unthreaded shafts that used the crush rings? Or are those just unobtainium at this point?

    Thanks,

    Rich

Yes, the earliest cars were threaded, but with the set screw, it would fit early or late, and you could easily line up the crest as you wished. Cool knob.

"I measured twice, cut three times, and it's still too short!

Apparently, the Amco knobs with setscrews can fit the shift levers that took crush spacers.

Right now, there are two $ 200 Amco Porsche Crest walnut shift knobs on eBay. One's 10 mm for 356 pre-A and A and the other loks like a 15 mm threaded version with no setscrew. The sellers don't seem to understand the distinction.

    Amco Shift Knobs

Here is a two page spread from my 77 Vilém B. Haan catalog.

Press-on Amco knobs were available for post-67˝ Porsches.
In walnut, you had the choice of car emblem, shift pattern or solid walnut.

Rich, they come up somewhat frequently. I've sold at least 2 wooden ones and one of the "leather" ones in the last year. Ive only got a threaded leather one left at this point but I'll keep my eyes out for ya.

So I was looking through some boxes of stuff to sell and I came across one of the knobs you're looking for. It's not mint or even close but if you are looking for a solid knob with a lot of character, this one oozes it.

    Joseph,
Yes, that is the type I'm looking for. And thank you for thinking of me. Sadly, that particular shift knob has perhaps a bit more 'character' than would be consistent with the high level of finish of the car.
    Thanks,
    Rich

No problem at all! They're out there. You just have to keep your eyes open.
