    floor boards

    what would be the best replacement for the wooden floorboards of an early 1965?

    I believe they were just A grade finished plywood painted flat black?

    If you can have them refinished that would be a better alternative. I did my own.

    i can confirm plywood - sperrholz -
    mine was really broken badly and totaly worn out and in bad shape after 50years of repetitive moisture and drying.
    had it duct taped for some time to keep it in place, but a refinishing was unfortunately out of possibility.

    out of security reasons i decided to renew it.

    I noticed the shape of the old 65 board is different than what is offered new.
    the old ones are cut round on the part to the tunnel and better shaped.

    so,if you do have the old ones: try to refinish them, or take the shape for a new board being cut.....

    Easy enough to fix in any condition if they are all there. Some epoxy, clamps, heavy weights, sandpaper and patience is all that's required.

    As a basic rule you should always avoid new parts. Fix what you have. I learned that years ago from Fred Simeone when I lived in Philly.

    Conserve, Preserve and if you really have to Restore. . Restoration and replacement of parts should be viewed as acts of desperation.
