    Just sold my '71s

Just thought you guys would want to know. I just sold my 1971 S for $85k. 911 1301 303. Eng # 6311714. I've owned it for the last 16 years. Car was bought new in Culver City CA. The third owner took it to VA, and sold it me in 2001. The original color was Pastel blue. When I got the car it was painted black. I stripped it down to bare metal and painted it Arena Red. I took the numbers matching engine out and put in a 68 Aluminum case, 84mm S piston, E cam engine that I had previously built for my old 68 911. Both engines were sold with the car. The car has no rust, the floor is perfect, I stripped all the factory tar off and coated the inside with POR-15. I also installed a metal S bumper, factory Sport Seats, and a 380mm wheel. I rebuilt or replaced every component that was worn. The only thing I didn't touch was the steering rack. I built this car to suit my taste, had I known the values would sky-rocket like they have, I would have kept it original.

Why did I sell? It got to the point where it was so valuable that I was afraid to drive it, and the money was too good to pass up. I didn't even market the car. People would drive by and see it in my garage and make me offers. I would always shut them up with an outlandish price, like $85k. Finally someone said ok. Next thing I know, some guy is driving my 911 away.

I'm going to miss her....I've been driving an early 911 since I was 21 years old...and there is nothing like it.

When I am too old to drive it, I'll just keep it in my garage and drool in it. Then it will be my kid's problem.
