    1968 Oil Tank

What is the correct finish on a 1968 911 oil tank.

    Is it smooth or textured?

    Is it black or gray?

If black is it satin or gloss?

    Can it be powder coated?

Mine is currently stripped and cleaned

Black gloss enamel......the heat from some powder coating ovens might be close to solder melt temp.

Someone else with the temp ranges can chime in.

Most of the fabrication on the oil tanks is brazing which melts at a much higher temp than solder, but some shops repair with lead solder....SO....lead solder melts at 370degrees F. Most powder coating is cured at 390 degrees F.

You could powder coat a brazed tank safely. If any lead solder repair, no.
