    Door Check Disassembly

    Need to replace the rollers on my door checks, they have cracked. What is the best way to remove the springs and reinstall? Also was thinking of buying the rebuild kit from Sierra Madre or Stoddard has anyone used these?

    I used a Stoddard set and it worked fine for me. From memory there isn't a great deal of tension on the spring when it's in the slack position so screwdriver and / or pliers should be ok. I see the Stoddard set is currently on offer at $36.93.

    Probably not many have this tool anymore, but I use a brake spring removal tool that was for spring removal on drum brakes. KD tools may still show it. As the above poster states, clamp it in a vise and clamp a small vice grip on the spring end and pull off.
