    Driving in altitude

    I`m planning af trip to the swiss alpes stelvio pass this spring, and will be facing up to 9.000 feet altitude. I drive a stock 911 1967
    with 125 mains 55 idle 180 air . I think I need to go down to Main 115 to-120 Idle 45 to 50 air 170 to 175

    I run with partsklassik CDI and 0.75mm sparkplug gap.

    does this sound correct?

    I would like to ordre 2 full set of jets , so 2 x 18 jets

    I need advice to a supplier of those full sets. I have not yet seen sets of mains 6 pcs , idle 6 pcs, or air 6 pcs for sale anywere?

    Just drive the car. You aren't going to be up there for a year.

    So, at what altitude would you stop to rejet, both on the way up and on the way down??

    Reminds me of the storey about one of the Ford Works Rally Drivers in the World Cup Mexico Rally 1970. Ford were woried about the performance of cars and drivers in the rarified athmosphere of Mexico and South America so they sent out one of the flying Finns with instructions to have sex with a woman at 10,000 ft. When asked by team manager Stuart Turner how he got on he said " there were no women at 10,000 ft so I went back down to 1,000 ft and had sex with ten women no problemat all " I think you'll be ok, I've driven many of the European passes in all types of 911, and no problem at all !

    I drive at over 9000 feet every weekend. No need to rejet.

    The air is less dense, so you have less of a vacuum signal pulling fuel out of the jets. You should be OK, just bring a spare set of plugs, plug wrench, M10 hex bit, 3/8" drive ratchet, plug gapper, fireproof gloves and a bottle of Obstler. The Obstler is for when the drive is complete.

    I drive those swiss passes all the time, sometimes 4 or 5 in one day. Once we were running down to South of France, it was about a dozen within 24hr.

    Once u are up at 2400m you might feel a slight weakness in response from the carbs and thats about it.
    Have a break up there, drink a coffee and check the view. Continue your trip. Denmark might be flat and the alps seem going high up..but in both conditions the car works just fine.

    Btw Stelvio pass is in Italy.
