PRICE CHECK:Very Nice Early Talbot Mirror (Junior with box, directions and all pieces

    Hi All,

I picked up this Talbot Junior mirror for my RSR tribute project. It was so nice and a complete I purchased it as a bit of an impulse buy. I quickly came to the conclusion that it is too small and went towards a larger Tudor mirror for the car. This Talbot is extremely nice with all the original parts including the box, screws, rubber pad and instructions. Supposedly it sat on a shelf in a garage that housed an E-type Jag for some 40 odd years and was never installed. This is the mirror that has the little Talbot mirror image stamped in the logo with the word(s) "W. Berlin". From my research, this is mirror is from the later 1960's and was an actual option for the SWB 911/912's for the Porsche dealerships. The green dot mirrors are actually early '70's or later.

When I decided to possibly sell it, I started to research it. I see pairs of these things for sale in Germany for the $1,500 range. Is that a dreamer price or is that true market value? Open to all opinions. Thanks.

Why the need for a price check? Sell it for what you bought it for unless you've been holding on to it for 10 plus years.

The ShamWOW EBay prices are stupid. If you want to use EBay, search on sold auctions instead of the dreamer for sale prices. Still, you have to use a bit of logic even with the "sold" prices to try and determine what the market will bear.

Last resort, put a dollar amount on it that will make you happy rather than trying to squeeze every dollar out of a marque. If it sells, you're "in the market". IF it doesn't, adjust your pricing.

Just as a point of reference: within the past year I bought two NOS Talbot mirrors (stamped "W. Berlin" just like yours), including boxes and instructions for my E-Type. After much back & forth negotiations I bought them both for just under a grand...I was very pleased with the purchase.

It's really easy. How long ago did you buy it and what did you pay for it? "Market" is pretty subjective without real data. Plenty of ways to accumulate data to make a decision and you already hold the most critical piece of data IMO. The dollars you paid and when the transaction occurred.

Did the E type use the Jr? I thought they used the larger Sr mirror

Here are some page shots of an article I prepared for the Gull Wing Group's 300 StarLetter on Talbot mirrors of the '50s, '60s and '70s in case anyone may be interested.

Yes, Michael, you are correct, the mirrors I bought for my E-Type were actually Talbot Seniors.
