11:30pm Thursday and Not a Single NCAA Tourney Post...?

Figured we should probably get the ball rolling with what may be the first of many posts on this year's Dance .... I'll kick off with a hearty Boo Ya for Northwestern's win over Vanderbilt earlier today . Awesome the see the 'Cats not only get to the tourney for the first time ever, but win their first-round game . Sadly, they're rewarded by facing #1 seed Gonzaga in the next round

    Discuss amongst yourselves ....

The foul committed by Vanderbilt at the end of the game certainly was a factor leading to Northwestern's win. You just can't say that play was the deciding factor but it certainly contributed. Congratulations to Northwestern.

Hey man, as a long-suffering NU alum, I've learned to accept that "a win is a win" .... I was an undergrad there from '86-'90, and those were some dark years for Northwestern athletics! In fact, the most salient fact I knew about NU before I started my Freshman year was that they held (and STILL hold) the dubious honor of the longest losing streak in Division 1A football history: 34 games! So as many of NU's victories tend to be, they have often been decided by a single knuckle-headed decision by one of the players (and it's usually one of our guys!). Witness NU's stunning last-minute victory against Michigan when Michigan's defense effectively fell asleep at the switch to let NU throw a full-court pass and score the winning basket as time expired...

I feel bad for that poor Vanderbilt kid, but in the meantime we NU fans have to celebrate where and when we can 'cause I think the Gonzaga game is gonna be ugly

True dat. My twin boys played football all 4 years in high school (New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL). Their Freshman team had 100 kids on it, but by their Senior year season, only 50 kids came out for the Freshman team. Between the concussion scares and kids starting to single-thread their high school athletics, the numbers have continued to fall...
