    1972 Targa top vinyl

The original vinyl on my '72 Targa top needs to be replaced. After talking to both Autos..International and Bahn, they are both using a different grain texture on the top. Looks more durable, but not the same.
The original looks very closely like the movable map door pocket vinyl. Has anyone tried using this? Long term durability being the issue. The original headliner is perfect. I'll reuse it.

Google Dave Brown in Boulder. Nobody knows more or pays closer attention to detail.

BTW... Does your material look like the material in the photo below? If so, it's incorrect. The smooth grain vinyl was used through 1969. From 1970 on the targa vinyl has a much rougher texture.

Also try Dan Petchel at www.carsincnj.com he also is very knowledgeable and restores targa tops. He is in New Jersey.

Agreed. Dan is a strong 2nd choice.

The coarser grain started during the 72 production year. I have an original early build number 72 S targa which has what is considered 71 parts on it such as the finer grain targa top material.

Dan did an excellent job on mine. This is not an easy job to do yourself as there are tensioning straps inside too.

My apologies. Alan is correct. Brain fart. '72 was the first year of the newer vinyl.
