If you go back to the factory on the day your car was built ....

.....what part of the assembly process(es) would you most like to observe? Such as engine building, body work, painting or interior fitments etc.

The factory and their assembly methods have no resemblence to what went on 50 years ago. It is facinating to watch, though.

Assuming I'm at the factory and its October, 1966, I want to see the body work. The amount of hand-forming. The precise fitment, the rawness of it.

I'd like to be there at lunch break to chew the fat (and drink a beer) with the guys/gals who put these things together.

Went through the assembly area in Stuttgart in the mide 80's. Was amazed to see vending machines selling beer.

I liked seeing how the parts were identified and staged for assembly. Not much automation then. As I recall the line moved fairly slowly. Occassionally one would see a car pulled to the side for reworking, but rarely.

The most pleasing part was the cars being individually driven before being signed-off, ready to be shipped. It was very obvious which cars were USA bound- tall ride heights and non-side marker lights.

I'm with Bill - lunch hour and a beer while discussing the future iconic nature and value of these cars.
